First off, I gotta give credit where credit is due. Reader Alan used the punch line here in a comment to Friday’s strip, and I grabbed onto it, knowing it to be gold as so many of his comments are, and something to push the story forward. Ironical to hear it coming from Longarms’ mouth instead of Jones, but you hafta remember that he rides too.
This strip is dedicated to R.M., a young man who was in my class when I first came to Hollister. He died in a car accident Friday January 13 about 3am when the driver lost control and hit a street light. Good kid, who will be missed by his family and friends in this community. Prayers out also for the driver and her family.

It is always sad to see loss of life due to alcohol. Whether you drink or not, it could be you at any time.
By the way, am I going blind, again, or has the log-in link disappeared?
Can’t tell you whether you’re going blind or not without seeing through your eyes but the link definitely isn’t there right now. There is still one at the top of the page under “freebies” though
OH. I forgot to announce that. I’ve deleted the points and plugin for now. I keep getting spammers signing up, I think hoping for a chance to post their links. The membership thing was a readership drive, and while it was fun, didn’t bring any real results.
Does this mean I don’t get the cartoon avatar anymore?
Jeez, did I never even start that?
Course you do, Alan. Just hafta point myself that direction. Glad for the remindulation.
I realized back in highschool that I can’t drink and own a bike at the same time, All I can think about when drinking is how I would rather be going for a ride. Every now and then my friends use me as a DD (which everyone should have). I hope everything works out ok for the girl and her family.
Yup. Drinking and riding are two things that each demand commitment. One of my favorite Clint Eastwood quotes is “A man’s got to know his limitations”. Apparently in Magnum Force, part of the Dirty Harry movies.
Not sure what’s up with the rest of the accident stuff. The girl is mostly ok and facing charges. The whole thing is bad for everyone. Seems this kinda stuff happens now and then. Then people watch out for a while until they forget, and do it again.
Great strip Rob.
It is truly sad when we loss young people in accidents. We have a program for the local High Schools called “Shattered Lives” that really hits home for some of the kids. It envolved the schools, Fire, EMS and police, the hospitals and funeral homes, we stage car accidents and cut the kids out of the vehicles and they are taken to the hospital and or morge. Then they paint them “white” face and they go back to school the next day but can’t talk to interact with the others. Youtube link to the one I was involved in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeQq7KvmxGQ

Thanks Tom.
Here in California we have a similar program called Every 15 Minutes. Which I dread because it sorta tears my heart out every time. I think I’ve been through three of them and I never get used to it. In fact, one year I was trying so hard not to break down sobbing that I got a sinus infection-no joke. That YouTube you posted takes me the same place.
It happens, but I never get used to it.
Always glad to see you here.
Rob, It is tough working that gig as I kept thinking it could be my daughter in one of those cars. Last year I could the phone call I dreaded “Daddy, I have been in an accident” she was not hurt but it scared the shit outta me. I was working at the FD that day and made the call. Kinda hard to deal with it though. Had to cut to many kids outta cars to not be bothered by the waste of their lost lives
